Reflection –Page 4.03-4.04: I looked at Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet; Sixteenth Street: Civil Rights at the Crossroads; and Destination America. The one I liked the most was Sixteenth Street. Which 21st century skills are demonstrated? This project addressed a number of 21st century skills—creativity and intellectual curiosity, communication skills, critical thinking and systems thinking, information and media skills and social responsibility. I really liked this unit because it is comprehensive and really makes students think outside the box on a lot of different levels. How does the student sample help to answer the CFQ’s? This was excellent because it starts with what are your basic human rights? Adolescents are all about discovering their identity and their rights and their place in the world. This sample had the students really thinking about their life and their world and their rights. The trial was excellent—it gave students a first-hand look at the justice system. How does the chosen technology tool enable students to enhance their learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity? Students are able to use the internet to conduct extensive research and then create a newspaper, multimedia slideshow, or book. This project requires that the students use technology for every aspect……research, creating their project and then presenting their project. Module 2 Reflection: This module has helped me think about using standards, CFQs, or formative assessment in the following ways... This module has helped me change the way I think and the way I plan my lessons. I have learned the value of starting at the end and working backwards……..wow ! ! ! That is amazing stuff and has really made me much more aware of what I am trying to accomplish with my students. If I know exactly where we are going, I can better plan the best way to get there………
Reflection—Page 3.04: How could you incorporate the Internet into your classroom to further enhance student learning in regards to research, communication, and collaboration? I am fortunate to have a computer lab as a classroom. For this reason, I use the computers everyday in some capacity. Research—My marketing students conduct research online to analyze trends, look at pricing, promotion, etc…..the list is endless and the internet is endless. Of course, the challenge is to teach the students how to accurately evaluate the website and to cite their sources properly. As a marketing teacher, I would hate to think how difficult it would be to conduct research without the internet………I guess I would have to resort to magazines, catalogs, etc………..how antiquated ! Communication and Collaborating—I have my students collaborate often on activities and projects. To develop 21st century skills, it is imperative that students learn how to work with others and be accountable for their piece of the entire project. Since I am in a computer lab, collaborating and communicating online is something I plan to incorporate into my classes next year. I feel like students are going to be really excited about this new opportunity.
